SwarmFest 2008 Call for Papers!

Preparations for SwarmFest 2008 are well underway. Our host will be Dr. Gary An at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Registration and opening reception are scheduled for the evening of May 11, with technical sessions on the 12th-13th. This venue is in the heart of the exciting cultural and social center of Chicago but some very special sponsors are helping us keep costs low. We are also working hard to organize several special focus areas. Please download and circulate the preliminary call for papers (PDF). Additional information will be posted here as planning proceeds.

New SDG directors

Swarm Development Group recently added two new members to their board of directors. Gary An is physician on the faculty of Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine and pioneer of agent-based modeling in medicine. John Pepper is a professor in the University of Arizona's Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and member of the Santa Fe Institute's external faculty. Information on the board and its officers is here.

Swarm for Ubuntu and Debian Linux

Jakson Aquino produced detailed instructions for making Swarm from source on Ubuntu/Debian Linux, and some binaries for Ubuntu 7.04. Thank you Jakson!

SwarmFest 2007 Presentations and Pictures

We now have an archive page up for SwarmFest 2007. Take a look for pictures and presentations by many of the speakers.

Be a Swarm Development Group Member!

Membership in SDG is a way to support our efforts to maintain and improve Swarm, and to support agent-based modeling. We just updated our membership page with new membership categories and procedures. Take a look to see what you can do. --SFRailsback 17:34, 10 Nov 2006 (EST)

Agent- and Individual-based Modeling Resources

  • Resources for agent-based modeling. This is a new area of the wiki for information on agent-based modeling in general. There are sub-areas for:
    • Agent-based modeling community resources, including SwarmFest, our annual modeling conference
    • Software (information on alternative platforms; learning materials; template models; integrated development environments)
    • "How and why to do agent-based modeling": techniques and theory
    • Resources specific to different scientific domains
  • modelling@swarm.org: The email community of agent-based modelers. This email list discusses topics of general interest to agent-based modelers. More information and signup here.
