Community Resources

modelling@swarm.org: The email community of agent-based modelers. This email list discusses topics of general interest to agent-based modelers. We encourage participation by anyone interested in ABMs. For additional information, to see the archives, or to sign up, go here.

SwarmFest. SwarmFest is SDG's annual agent-based modeling conference. SwarmFest is informal, interdisciplinary, non-denominational (users of Repast, NetLogo, etc. and even FORTRAN are welcome), and international. SwarmFest is an excellent place to present new or tentative results, talk about methodological issues, and meet new collaborators.

Template software is one of the best tools for getting started programming models-it provides simple working code that can be modified as needed. This page provides an extensive series of template models for five platforms: MASON, NetLogo, Repast, and Java and Objective-C Swarm.

Integrated development environments (IDEs) can make it much easier to program and test an ABM. Here is information on using Swarm, Repast, and MASON in IDEs, especially Eclipse.

Why and How to do Agent-based and Individual-based Modeling

Should I use an ABM for my research? How would I design it, and apply it to my research problems? Can I do "theory" with an ABM? How do I get started?

Leigh Tesfatsion's Agent-based Computational Economics site is an up-to-date, extensive resource for economists.
