TITLE: The Santa Fe Complex: An Open and Shared Project Space for Applied Complexity: Example projects using "Ambient Computing" for participatory modeling
ABSTRACT: We will introduce the Santa Fe Complex project, a shared collaborative space in the Santa Fe Railyard for Applied Complexity Projects. The Santa Fe Complex is a one-year-old non-profit hosting ABM projects in application areas of crowd dynamics, urban dynamics, water, energy, public health. SFComplex has a strong outreach through hosting of community events, public lectures, educational outreach and encouraging collaborations in art, technology and science.
We will present recent applications of agent-based GIS simulations to urban systems that includes interactive models on a physical sandtable designed for multi-agency emergence response training, incident command and community outreach. The SimTable is able to measure the changing heights of the sand and create high-resolution digital terrain models of the surface. This GIS layer is combined with other climate and vegetation models to visualize realtime wildfire, flood and contaminant plume dynamics coupled with agent-based models of traffic evacuation and incident response teams. The table allows multiple users to interact with the 3D surface changing both the topography and interacting with the simulations. Example wildfire and crowd dynamics agent-based models will be demonstrated. Example video is available at http://www.simtable.com
